The Seeds Need Sunlight.....

Sad news of the passing of celebrity figures has unfortunately been coming in droves over the past week. The recent tragic deaths of high profile figures such as Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and even pitchman Billy Mays have generated a lot of media attention, outpourings of support from fans, and plenty of discussion about their lives and accomplishments. Another musician and friend of the Pumpkins passed away last Thursday, but drew slightly less media attention. Sky Saxon, the founder of the 1960's psychedelic garage band The Seeds died in Austin, Texas of a suspected infection of internal organs at the age of 72. Pumpkins fans will most likely recognize Sky from his appearance alongside Billy and Jimmy in the band's 2008 video for "Superchrist." He was the guest bass guitarist seen jamming the opening notes of the song and rocking out the tune throughout the video. Billy Corgan had a very strong personal relationship with Sky outside of just their musical connection, and his passing comes a very sad news.

Sky began his music career under the name Little Richie Marsh, singing doo-wop songs in the early 1960's. He experimented with several different bands before joining forces with Jan Savage, Darryl Hooper, Jeremy Levine, and Rick Andridge to form the act known as The Seeds in the early days of the psychedelic movement in 1965. Their two most widely known hits were "Can't Seem to Make You Mine" and "Pushin' Too Hard," (seen below) which reached the top forty charts in the United States in 1967. Shortly thereafter, however, Saxon disbanded The Seeds to pursue his "Sky Saxon Blues Band" project. After just one album under that moniker, The Seeds would re-unite to continue writing and releasing music into the late 1960's. They would also release sporadic albums throughout the 70's, 80's, 90's, and even into the 2000's while Sky experimented with solo albums and side projects of various forms. According to Saxon's website, there are thirty six albums or EP's officially attributed to him and the different projects he embarked upon over the years. The most recent of these releases was The Seeds' 2008 album "Back to the Garden."

The Seeds played a very important role in the development of the psychedelic era of rock n' roll music. It's impossible to measure just how far a band's influence spreads, but they received shout outs in the form of a cover of "Can't Seem to Make You Mine" from acts as wide-ranging as Alex Chilton, Garbage, The Ramones, and Yo La Tengo. The Seeds themselves were heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones, and drew comparisons as the "American version of the Rolling Stones." They were among the first American bands (along with The Charlatans, Moby Grape, Jefferson Airplane, and others) to take the blues and R & B base provided by bands like the Rolling Stones and experiment with it, trying to replicate the affects of drug experimentation in their music. The Seeds were based out of Los Angeles, close to the heart of the psychedelic rock movement in San Francisco. While their music may have been more popular at that time within the local California psychedelic scenes than it was on a national scale, they were certainly among the pioneers who laid the groundwork for many of the hit acts of the late 1960's and 1970's.

Microdot Sleeve: In computer, skin is a piece of software that enables the user to change the appearance of images produced by existing software without changing their function. In music, another term for percussion drums, especially in a jazz band.

Back in the 80's, I was into New Wave and stuffs until I got hooked to Rush's music, a Canadian rock band originally formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. One time in the 90's, Vig and I had some conversations about jazz, and zildjian, and drums. I told him that I knew a guy(not personally) who played drums better than any drummer that time, and that is Neil Peart. Last week, I found this on youtube, a 3D animation of Rush's "YYZ" off their 1981 album "Moving Pictures" an album full of synthesizers and a lot of drums.

Sounds like an introduction for a new wave band on stage, but the truth is, Michael Jackson is dead. He was pronounced dead earlier this afternoon at the UCLA Medical Center. I remember the british rock wave band Bolshoi, famous with their song "Away" and "Sunday Morning," had a live version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Also, Jackson's famous "Moonwalk" was an adlib steps of street dance like "Strutt" and "Breakdance" back in the 80's. Well anyway, I heard the news saying that though he earned a billion dollars for the past 4 decades of his career, he died broke, and renting a home in L.A. with $500 million of debt.

Ipapatigil din kaya nila ang kanilang beso-beso o shake hands? Kung ipapatigil nila, papaano kaya nila masusunod ang sinasabi sa talata? While it is true that there are evil that throughout the history of humanity were done by some people who "allegedly" are believers in the existence of God, the worst of evil were done by those who denied the existence of God Psalms 53:1:

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good."

This was the observation of the psalmist David. The same observation was written by another Biblical writer many hundreds of years after David.

In Romans 3:10-18, the apostle Paul categorically stated:

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known:
There is no fear of God before their eyes."

Noong araw pa man ay may mga atheists ng nabuhay sa mundo. Hanggang ngayon, sa ating makabagong panahon, sa kabila ng maraming bagay at paniniwala ng iba't-ibang relihiyon na itinatag ng tao, ay may mga tao pa rin na hindi naniniwalang may Dios. Kamakailan lang sa Europa, sa London, may mga atheists na nag advertised sa pamamagitan ng mga bus.

Isang uri ng panyapak. Proteksyon sa paa. Itong darating na Abril 10, maraming tao ang maghuhubad ng kanilang tsinelas dahil sa paniniwalang maaalis kung hindi man lahat ay mababawasan ang kanilang mga kasalanan sa kanilang paglalakad ng nakayapak na wala naman sa biblia.

Microdot Sleeve: Slang – a colloquial, nonstandard speech that expresses ideas in an unconventional and often playful and colorful manner. It is pertained to as a street language, for example, ain’t, gonna, wanna, shudda, cudda. Much slang is popular for only a short time, but many words that were originally considered slang are now in standard usage. Anyway, the last time I had an entry was more than a hundred days ago. Here’s a new one to fill that gap, written as a class memento for me and my classmates who graduated from a free training course on how to be a Call Center Agent.

I’m done taking up a free training course somewhere in Ortigas area. It was a month-long training in English Comprehension and Call Center stuffs. I’ve met a lot of people and new faces to remember. I’ve kept them in my memory box. Some of those beautiful human beings are presented here using Photobucket’s slide. I’ve also had a lot of kilometers, shred some pounds, and a few flats on riding a bicycle when going to my class. I’ve learned a lot with sweaty palms, trembled in near hypothermia while the air conditions in full blast. We’re all graduates now. Still, there’s a lot more to learn. Life is always like that. Living and learning.

Tapos hanggang sa lumabas na mga ibat-ibang klase ng Cellphone, may Nokia, Philips, Mitsubishi, etc. Pero bago pa yon ay may analog phone pa, along avenida nabibili iyon sometime in the late 90's, kapag bumili ka ng ganun na karaniwan ay cloned phones, aakyat yun nagbebenta sa mataas na building dala ang phone na nabili mo, may ikakabit na aparatus sa analog phone mo para humanap ng number o signal, kapag naka-scan ng number, yun na ang number mo which is cloned, may kapareho ka ng number, magagamit mo na ang analog phone mo, at dahil may kagaya kang number, hindi ka matatawagan, ikaw lang ang makakatawag at magrereflect ang bayad nun sa bill ng original na may ari ng number. Minsan, naglalakad ako pauwi, nagtetext ako, sa Bulacan pa ako nakatira nun, may tatlong magkaka-angkas sa motorsiklo, hinablot yun 5110 ko, hindi nila nakuha, puro mura pa inabot ko, wahehehe! Kung ng time na yon may N45 na gaya ng picture sa ibaba, wala ng manghahablot ng Cellphone takot na lang nila. Wahehehe! Naalala ko si Bhab, sana magkaroon siya ng N45, madalas kasi siyang mawalan ng Cellphone.

microdot sleeve: Creepers is a punk shoes made of leather with very thick sole. I remember a place somewhere in Recto who made a custom creeper shoes for punks.

Here's some memories. About a month ago, I was told by Bhab that she's into music stuffs and things of the past. So, I started making some roll calls on names and bands that I was listening to during the highschool days. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc. Then, I remember the post punk era of the 80's when I had an '87 Dead Kennedy's album called "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death." One day, I found myself looking at some videos and stuffs in YouTube. The song "Kinky S** Makes the World Go Round" is still relevant today with its polical substance and of course "California Uber Alles" is awesome. Things that I'm missing at present is the music in the 80's, commercial music is everywhere nowadays, and I don't like it. Those bands appearing on TV makes me sick. I don't know? I guess I left myself in the past. Wanna join? Here's what I'm missing, here's what you've missed. A Jello Biafra classic. The Dead Kennedy's.

Ang Lihim sa Likod Bahay.....

May napanood ako sa TV minsan tungkol sa isang papag at kadena sa likod bahay. Naalala ko noong araw, sa Malabon pa kami nakatira. May kapit-bahay kami sa likod bahay na may sakit. May deprensya sa pag-iisip. Kapag naaalala ko iyon, hindi ko maiwasan ang hindi malungkot. Kapatid iyon ng classmate ko sa elementary. Ewan ko kung ano na ang nangyari sa kanya pero yun classmate ko, patay na. Kawawa naman ang mga taong gayon. Kung minsan, itinatago na lamang sila sa likod bahay. May napanood pa ako, pinapalo ng walis ng mismong anak o apo. Kaawa-awa ang kalagayan ng mga ganun. Sa aking pagbibisikleta minsan, nakakakita ako sa daan ng mga ganung tao, ang tanging kaibigan ay ang dumi ng lansangang kumapit na sa kanilang katawan pati na ang kanilang daliri, nagbibilang kahit walang binibilang. Tapos may makikita ka sa daan, mayaman na ang binibilang ay pera, nakasakay sa magarang sasakyan, at alahas ang nakakapit sa katawan. Nakakalungkot isipin.

Violin - Alam mo bang may Acupuncture sa violin. Ginagawa iyon sa pamamagitan ng pagpukpok ng matulis na bagay sa body ng violin. Halos hindi iyon mahahalata kasi dot lang iyon na maliit. Isang katotohanan tungkol sa rabies, ilang linggo lang ay mamamatay na ang biktima. Last year, may kababata ako namatay dahil dito. Nakagat siya ng alaga niya mismong aso. Napanood ko sa TV, kung saan last stage ng rabies ang pinakita, binasag ng biktima yun bintana ng kwartong kinalalagyan niya sa isang ospital, ilang oras bago siya mamatay. Nakagat din ako ng aso noong bata pa ako. Hindi ko makakalimutan iyon. Kahit ang pangalan nun aso, tanda ko pa rin, Quatang. Aso ng kapitbahay namin. Kelan lang galing ako sa Tita ko na may alagang aso, may sticker sa gate nila, "PITBULL" ang sbi ng sticker, wala naman pala silang ganoong aso, panakot lang kasi minsan ng nakakagat ng naniningil ng bayad sa kuryente yun aso nila. Mainit sa katawan ang aso, Noong araw kasi, ito pinupulutan namin. Ang one year sa atin, 7 years sa aso. Kaya kapag 3 years na ang aso, fully grown adult na ito. Nagkalat ang aso sa dyaryo. May swaping corner para sa aso, may for sale. Pero madami akong alam na aso na nagkalat kung saan-saan. Sila'y matatakaw at walang kabusugan. Nagsasalita ang mga iyon gamit ang pulpito. Baka nga sakmal nila ngayon ang leeg at bulsa mo eh.

Gaya ng Brain Challenge, Snooker, Tour de France, at EMI Lyric game na huhulaan mo kung ano ang sagot sa mga tanong, kung anong kanta ang lyrics na ipapakita syo, sino kumanta, title ng kanta, etc. 11 na games ang laman ng celfone ko. Tama lang na panglibang kapag may iniintay o kaya kapag nag-iisip ng bagay pang motivate sa pagsusulat o kaya'y walang magawa.

Review: I use to watch Jerry Springer show that’s why this morning show captured my attention. The program is entitled Good Morning Kuya and the format - just the format, not the content - is somehow parallel. The first scene that I was able to see was the host, Kuya Daniel, walking up the stairs talking to the cameramen and the staff telling them how the show should fare. I think it was very post-modernist, very unconventional and I must say effective.

I learned that Good Morning Kuya is relatively a newcomer, and despite the commotion, I’d like to say the show is good. There are various points that I considered: 1. Public Service. I have never seen any television show that offers free services this much - medical service, legal service, free ride and other services that are too trivial to mention. 2. Uniqueness. It is not easy to merge sensibility and humor. This show is a perfect blend of the two and is very distinctive. Watching the show means learning in a non-tedious way. 3. Content. I tuned in quite late at around 6:30 in the morning but at the end of the show, at 9:00 am, I felt like I have gained a lot. I am not a newspaper reader, and I believe this show will keep me informed about the whatnots in the world. 4. Truth. If there’s a thing called ‘reality TV’ this is the real one. What you see is what you get. No pretensions.

Good Morning Kuya is aired through UNTV channel 37, a relatively small TV network here in the Philippines. With all the free ‘goods’ that they give out, it is not easy to maintain this program. With the knowledge that they strive hard to reach out to the needy, it is indeed very heart warming. I wonder when will the other bigger TV networks follow the steps of this program. The answer I cannot provide, but Good Morning Kuya surely made a huge step into the advancement of TV shows.

Binura na lang ni Myembrolang.....

Nakakalungkot na ng dahil kasi sa spam binura na ni Bhab ang kanyang mga entries sa kanyang blogsite. Yun blogsite pa naman na yun ang nag-trigger sa akin para magsulat at magkaroon ng ganitong playground. Kanina lang nag-text ako sa kanya ng ganito:

Actually, nagkita kami ni Bhab noong Saturday sa Alpha, batian lang kami kasi busy rin ako sa maraming paperworks(from monday to friday, may directorial work ako sa Hollywood). Mayroon pa naman siyang blogsite na dumadami at si art na langgam ni Devi kaya lang nakakapang-hinayang lalo na kung isang electronic ads that works like a virus ang sisira ng gawa mo, sana gumawa ulit siya ng blogsite.

What is spam?

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.

There are two main types of spam, and they have different effects on Internet users. Cancellable Usenet spam is a single message sent to 20 or more Usenet newsgroups. (Through long experience, Usenet users have found that any message posted to so many newsgroups is often not relevant to most or all of them.) Usenet spam is aimed at "lurkers", people who read newsgroups but rarely or never post and give their address away. Usenet spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming them with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant posts. Furthermore, Usenet spam subverts the ability of system administrators and owners to manage the topics they accept on their systems.

Email spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Usenet postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses. Email spams typically cost users money out-of-pocket to receive. Many people - anyone with measured phone service - read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. On top of that, it costs money for ISPs and online services to transmit spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.

One particularly nasty variant of email spam is sending spam to mailing lists (public or private email discussion forums.) Because many mailing lists limit activity to their subscribers, spammers will use automated tools to subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible, so that they can grab the lists of addresses, or use the mailing list as a direct target for their attacks.
